Meet Gage, a handsome little Havanese boy here at Prestige Pets.

Gage is a happy, playful little guy with a curious side. He enjoys checking out what's happening around him and getting in on the fun, but he also appreciates attention from the people caring for him. As he continues experiencing new things, we're enjoying watching more of his individual personality come through.

He's being raised with plenty of hands-on care and everyday interaction, giving him a comfortable start as he prepares for life with his future family.

A Little About the Havanese

The Havanese is a small companion breed known for being social, affectionate, and lively. Originally developed in Cuba, the Havanese has a long history of living closely alongside people and is even recognized as the country's national dog.

One of the things families often enjoy about Havanese is their combination of a manageable size and fun-loving personality. They can be playful and entertaining while also enjoying plenty of time with their people.

Havanese tend to form close connections with their families, so they're best suited for homes where they'll truly be part of everyday life rather than spending most of their time on their own.

Helping Gage Feel at Home in the World

Life at Prestige Pets gives Gage opportunities to become familiar with many of the ordinary things he'll encounter as a family companion.

He receives regular handling and socialization and experiences everyday activity, different sounds, people, and routines. We introduce new experiences in a positive and manageable way while giving him plenty of opportunities for play and interaction.

It's nothing overly complicated. We simply want everyday life around people to feel familiar to him.

Practicing Some Puppy Basics

Along with socialization, we begin introducing practical routines that Gage's family can continue at home.

His early training includes:

These skills take time and consistency, especially after a puppy moves into a completely new environment.

Gage will need his family to continue working with him, but having an introduction to these routines gives him a helpful place to start.

Health Care & a Good Start

Gage's routine care is an important part of preparing him for home.

He will be up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming and will receive a complete veterinary health examination.

His parents have also been screened for breed-related health concerns as part of the breeding practices at Prestige Pets.

Gage is microchipped for permanent identification and comes with a 1-year genetic health guarantee.

Caring for a Havanese

That beautiful Havanese coat is one of the breed's most recognizable features, but it does need regular attention.

A Havanese has a soft coat that benefits from consistent brushing to help prevent tangles and mats. Bathing, nail trims, ear care, and professional grooming as needed should also become part of Gage's regular routine.

The Havanese is often considered a low-shedding breed, but that doesn't mean they're maintenance-free. Keeping up with grooming is important for both the appearance and comfort of their coat.

They also enjoy activity and interaction. Playtime, walks, simple training exercises, and opportunities to spend time with their people can provide both physical activity and mental stimulation.
