Say Hello to Hugo
Meet Hugo, a darling little Havanese boy being raised here at Prestige Pets.
Hugo is a curious, cuddly little fellow who likes to see what’s going on around him. He enjoys exploring during playtime and is equally happy getting some attention from the people nearby. We’re seeing more of Hugo’s personality peek through as he discovers new things, and it’s always fun to see what catches his interest.
He’s surrounded by plenty of interaction and hands-on care, giving him lots of opportunities to enjoy simply being a puppy while becoming familiar with life around people.
The Little Dog From Havana
The Havanese has an interesting history that sets it apart from many other small breeds. Originating in Cuba and named after the country’s capital city of Havana, the Havanese was developed primarily for companionship.
That history is still reflected in the breed today. Havanese are often affectionate, social dogs that enjoy being involved with their families. They’re also known for being bright and playful, making activities such as training games, walks, and interactive play enjoyable ways to spend time together.
Their compact size makes them convenient companions, but they still need regular attention, exercise, training, grooming, and mental stimulation to thrive.
New Experiences for Hugo
Part of Hugo’s time with us is spent becoming familiar with the ordinary sights and sounds that make up everyday life.
He receives gentle handling, regular socialization, daily interaction, and opportunities to experience different sounds, routines, activities, and age-appropriate situations.
We keep these experiences comfortable and positive. There’s no need to introduce everything at once. Each new experience simply gives Hugo another chance to explore and learn.
That process will continue after he goes home as his family introduces him to their own lifestyle and routines.
A Start on Puppy Training
We’re also helping Hugo become familiar with a few skills that will be useful in his future home.
His early training includes:
Potty Training: In progress
Crate Training: In progress
Leash Training: In progress
These are introductions to the basics rather than completed training.
Once Hugo moves into a new home, consistency will be especially important. He’ll be learning a different schedule, a new potty area, and a whole new household routine. Positive reinforcement and patience can help him understand what his family expects from him.
Hugo’s Health & Veterinary Care
Before Hugo heads home, several important pieces of his routine health care will already be in place.
He will receive a complete veterinary health examination and will be up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming.
Hugo’s parents have been screened for breed-related health concerns as part of the breeding practices at Prestige Pets. Health screening provides valuable information when making breeding decisions, although it cannot guarantee a puppy’s future health.
Hugo is also microchipped for permanent identification and comes with a 1-year genetic health guarantee.
Grooming Is Part of Havanese Life
The Havanese coat is soft and beautiful, but families considering this breed should be prepared for regular grooming.
Hugo will need routine brushing to help keep his coat free from tangles and mats. Bathing, nail trims, ear care, and professional grooming as needed are also important parts of maintaining a Havanese.
Some owners love the traditional longer coat, while others prefer keeping their Havanese in a shorter puppy cut for easier upkeep.
Although Havanese are generally considered low-shedding dogs, their coats still require consistent care. Getting Hugo comfortable with brushing and grooming from an early age can make the routine easier for everyone.
Fun Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated
Keeping a Havanese engaged can be as simple as including him in everyday activities.
A game with a favorite toy, a short training session, an age-appropriate walk, or a chance to investigate a new environment can all provide useful physical and mental stimulation.
Because Havanese are companion dogs, time spent with their people matters too. Hugo will benefit from a household that can give him a nice balance of play, learning, activity, companionship, and quiet time.
What Will Hugo Bring Home?
We’ll make sure Hugo’s family has important information and a few essentials to help with his transition.
Hugo will go home with:
Health and vaccination records
Microchip information
Starter food
1-year genetic health guarantee
His family can use those records when establishing care with their own veterinarian and continue building on the routines Hugo has already begun learning.
A Thoughtful Beginning at Prestige Pets
Every puppy is a little different, which is part of what makes raising them so enjoyable.
At Prestige Pets, Hugo receives individual attention along with early socialization, gentle handling, veterinary care, introductions to basic training, and plenty of opportunities to play and explore.
We want our Havanese puppies to leave us with a good foundation while understanding that their development doesn’t stop when they head home. Their families will continue shaping that foundation through training, socialization, grooming, veterinary care, and everyday experiences.
Hugo’s Adventure Is Just Beginning
Hugo is already showing us a curious and cuddly side, with plenty more of his personality still taking shape.
Whether he’s investigating something new or enjoying a little attention, he’s a sweet little Havanese boy we’ve enjoyed getting to know.
For a family looking for a male Havanese puppy, Hugo may be the little companion who fits right into the life they’ve been imagining.
